Though this client already had a rooftop garden where he frequently entertained guests, it had deteriorated since installation. We took over maintenance to restore its luxuriant look.

Our major challenge was clear: the rooftop's proximity to Lake Michigan made for strong winds that dried out the garden.

Our solution was to install a SMART irrigation system that assesses the rooftop's microclimate and halts irrigation during windy intervals. We replaced some of the plant life with species better suited to windy rooftop conditions, and amended the soil to be light-weight and free-draining. The result? A landscape rescued.
